• Smokeless coals: At least once a year
• Wood: Every quarter when in use
• Bituminous coal: Twice a year
• Oil: Once a year
• Gas:Once a year

Remember clean chimneys are much less likely to catch fire. UK statistics show that there are thousands of chimney fires every year.  This is mainly due to infrequent sweeping, burning of unseasoned wood and smouldering fires left overnight.
